ABSTRACT

In this paper, the works on the justification of the van der Waals theory of surface tension in the context of the Kac Ising models are reviewed. The second part of the paper is devoted to a coarse grained definition of the surface tension for Kac Ising models which is appropriate for the $L^1$ approach of phase coexistence.
